Dialectical Behavior Therapy in Utah

Dialectical Behavior Therapy was developed by Dr. Marsha Linehan as a modified form of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to address behaviors associated with Borderline Personality Disorder. It is based on building skills to increase distress tolerance, regulate emotions and improve interpersonal relationships utilizing mindfulness and cognitive skills. After utilizing this therapy with individuals with Borderline Personality Disorder, clinicians discovered that the skills are helpful to reduce symptoms of depression, anxiety, trauma, addictions and eating disorders. I utilize DBT skills to help clients improve their ability to cope with stress and stop using food to numb painful emotions.
