The Key To Weight Loss Is Not About Weight

Salt Lake Weight Counseling….you guys help people with weight loss, right? When a new client calls for an appointment, they often want to focus on weight loss. Sure, weight counseling is obviously part of what we do, but the weight piece is a very, very small part. The biggest key to achieving and maintaining a healthy weight is not really about weight. It is about our relationship with food and our negative beliefs about ourselves. Let me repeat that for clarity… will never lose weight unless you change your relationship with food and your negative beliefs about yourself! This is why diets don’t work! Look at any diet out there. They just give you new food rules. They never help you change your emotional connection to food. This is what makes us different. Think of our services as marriage counseling. You and food are sitting on the couch and we are teaching you how to live in happy matrimony! This is absolutely necessary because you can never avoid food. It is in your face several times per day like an irritating ex fighting you for custody. You have to face this demon head on. We help people through this in a few ways. First, we have to address the negative self-talk that comes with eating and weight loss. Most people struggle with all or nothing thoughts. If they aren’t perfect, they’ve failed and might as well give up. Sound like just about every diet you’ve been on? We also need to address low self-worth. Many people who battle their weight and struggle with emotional eating have a low opinion of themselves and deep down, they don’t believe they deserve happiness. This is a big bunch of bull crap. We help people see that clearly. You deserve to be happy. You are worth having the life you want. By addressing the root of the belief that you don’t deserve good things in your life, we can help you unlock the shackles that have kept you stuck for far too long. So, after getting the negative self-talk out of the way, we move on to the relationship with food. We actually help you rewire your brain around food. Sounds crazy, I know! Over the years, the circuitry in your brain has become corrupted. You have started to make inappropriate emotional connections with food. We help change that wiring. This is scary for a lot of people because they assume that means they will no longer enjoy food. Exactly the opposite! You will enjoy it much more because you will actually taste it. You will eat without shame and guilt. You will feel worthy of savoring it. This is true freedom! Is this an easy or quick process? No. Unfortunately, it isn’t for most people, but let me ask you….where has the quick and easy “solution” gotten you so far? If you are ready for a change, call us. With offices in Salt Lake, Pleasant Grove and Clearfield, help is close by.
